2008 HOLIDAY EVENTS GUIDE

Oct 28 – Nov 9  Christmas Memories Quilt Show.  The Christmas Memories Quilt Show at Postville Courthouse State Historic Site will be back again this year.  Featuring lovely period quilts of all designs and holiday themes.  Hours are 12 PM to 4 PM.  This show is co-sponsored by Postville Courthouse and Sew Many Friends.  Come and enjoy the beautiful quilts and vote for your favorite.  Tour the historic site at 914 Fifth Street in Lincoln.  Free and open to the public.  For more information, please call 217-735-4977 or 217-732-4527.

Nov 22 & 23 Christmas on Vinegar Hill.  Come and shop and browse at Mt. Pulaski’s annual Christmas on Vinegar Hill celebration.  Citywide displays, homes, schools, churches and businesses, crafts and food.  Plan on spending the day and join in on all the holiday cheer.  Saturday from 8 AM – 5 PM and Sunday from 12 PM – 4 PM.  For more information, please call 217-792-5698.

Nov 29  Pride of the Prairie Folk Art & Craft Show.  The Lincoln Park District is proud to present the Pride of the Prairie Folk Art & Craft Show of 2008.  Featuring area artists and crafters bringing together a collection of their finest.  A great place for holiday shopping!  Call 217-732-8770 for more information.

Dec 4 – 7  Christmas in the Chapel. Lincoln Christian College & Seminary. This spectacular performance is the highlight of the holiday season in the county. Call 217-220-2253 for tickets and reservations. 

Dec 6 & 7  Elkhart Christmas Weekend.  Come out to Historic Elkhart, IL to enjoy a weekend of holiday fun!  The highlight as usual will be Christmas Candlelight Service at the Gillett Chapel.  I believe there will be a matinee performance on Sunday as before.  Dinner will be served as last year in all three Elkhart eateries....Brown's Talk of the Town, The Blue Stem Bakery and The Wild Hare Cafe.  Open houses will be held at Horsefeathers Antiques and Gifts, The Dragonfly Art Studio and our newest addition The Aeolian Curiousity Shop that will be selling antiques, collectables, old books and original art.  For more information, please contact Andrea Niehaus over at Horsefeathers, at 217-947-2100.

Dec 6  1840’s Christmas Open House.  Come out to Postville Courthouse State Historic Site to enjoy the holidays 1840’s style.  The building will be decorated in 1840’s style, with period music, an Abraham Lincoln interpreter, pumpkin cake, tours, and even an historic speaker!  Call 217-735-4977 or 217-737-0979 for more information.

Dec 6  Christmas Candlelight Service.  Elkhart Historical Society is pleased to host their annual Christmas Candlelight Service at the Gillett Chapel in Elkhart Cemetery.  Space is limited for this event, so please call 217-947-2238 for reservations.
