Marty Yount of Missouri - 2008 Winner of National Railsplitting Contest

13 Contestests from Illinois, Misouri, and Kentucky competed this year

Marty Yount wins the 2008 National Railsplitting Contest in rainy Lincoln, IL on Sunday. The festival was shortened by torrential rains and flash flood watches and warnings. Yount, who hails from Missouri, got a great log and coasted to a first place time of 5min 11sec. 2nd place went to 70 year old Oliver Friedlein from IL with a time of 6:33. Third place went to Jason Hill of MO with a time of 10:45 and fourth place went to Roy Usery of MO with 12:22. A total of 13 splitters from IL, MO, and KY competed for prize monies. Ist place received $1000 (sponsors: Graue Chevrolet & Xamis Ford), 2nd place won $500 (sponsor: Lincoln College), 3rd place won $250 (sponsor: Lincoln IGA), and 4th place took in $100 (sponsor: Dr. Dennis Carroll). Splitters had to split a log into 8 even rails in the fastest amount of time.

Women: 1st - Diane Rankin - IL,  2nd - Heidi Rankin -IL, 3rd - Tracy Berrong - MO
Men's: 1st - Larry Hill -MO, 2nd - Bob Rankin- IL, 3rd- Ed Dyer -IL
